A scale model of the 1961 Ford Gyron concept has sold at auction for $40,000, around four times its estimate. The space-age concept car – designed by Alex Tremulis, McKinley Thompson, Syd Mead, Bill Dayton, John Najjar, and Elwood Engel – debuted in 1961 at the New York International Auto Show and featured two wheels mounted along the car's centerline, usung a gyroscope for stability. The full-size model – which relied on stabilizing wheels instead of a gyroscope – also predicted the development of satellite navigation systems, car phones and infrared sensing.
The electric Chevrolet Spark is heading for a European debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and will go on sale in Europe in 2014. Chevrolet has revealed that the Spark EV will; make its European debut at next month’s Geneva Motor Show and that there are plans to launch the Spark EV in Europe in 2014. Well, in ‘Select European Markets’ at least.
Vauxhall Ampera costs from £35k
The European and UK version of the Chevy Volt – the Vauxhall Ampera – will cost from £34,995 when it arrives on UK roads in May 2012. Actually, this isn’t the first time we’ve had a price for the Vauxhall Ampera. Just over a year ago Vauxhall announced it would cost from £33,995 when it arrived in the UK in 2012.
